The impact of methane emissions on Climate.

  • The attached diagram compares the Warming Power of Methane (CH4) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2).
  • In brief, CH4 has a strong warming power, therefore impact on atmosphere and climate change, but disappears quicker than CO2.
  • Reducing methane emissions would therefore have a strong impact on climate.
  • Methane emissions have however risen significantly since a decade without clear explanation.
  • 60% of methane emissions are generated through human activities: Breeding, Oil & Gas extraction and transport, Wastes and used water, coal, rice cultivation.
  • The Canadian company GHGSat is now issuing a map of methane emissions in the world.
  • Today, no one is able to hide the methane leaks anymore.
