Controlling & reducing the specific Risks associated to the tubular Handling and Lifting offshore
During summer 2025, Adinergy has participated to a study initiated by TotalEnergies E&P Angola (TEPA) in order to better control the specific risks of handling and lifting drilling tubulars between the drilling rig and the Offshore Support Vessels (OSVs).
There are no industry standard guidance on loading/handling of tubular on board OSVs. The specific Risks associated to tubular handling are related to the nature of the goods (Weight & Shape) to be transported in open-sea conditions and transferred from/to a floating unit (vessels) to/from a fixed or floating unit.
What did we do with the TEPA teams?
- We have addressed the specific risk of tubular handling and lifting between vessels and drilling rigs.
- We clarified the vessel chartering/acceptance process.
- We reviewed the contractual documents (Bridging Document) to align the HSE Standards and Practices of CONTRACTOR on COMPANY’s HSE principles and expectations to enhance the vessel contractor's Safety and Operational performance.
- We clarified the organization and roles of all actors involved so that everyone is fully aware of his responsibilities (including the vessel).
- We reviewed the procedures to better understand the best practices.
- We defined appropriate training to protect those involved in these dangerous operations.
The lessons learned from this valuable experience will be integrated into the logistics training proposed and delivered by Adinergy, in particular:
- Supply Base Management (Ref.ADY-LOG02-MOD02)
- Handling and Lifting (Ref.ADY-LOG02-MOD03)
- Offshore Logistics Operations (Ref.ADY-LOG02-MOD04)
Safer together, Adinergy continues its mission to develop the competencies of the energy actors and contribute to the Safety and Operational efficiency of All
