Introduction to Dynamic Positioning

  • Duration in hours: 1 x 4h
  • Module level: Foundation
400 €

Overview
Dynamic Positioning has become dominant in the offshore industry because it enables safe, precise, and efficient operations in increasingly complex, deepwater, and environmentally sensitive environments. It is not just a convenience, but a necessity in modern offshore operations.
This course provides a foundational understanding of Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems used in the maritime and offshore industries. It introduces the regulatory environment, technical components, and operational challenges of DP, equipping participants with essential knowledge to support safe and efficient vessel operations.
Section 1: Rules and International Regulations:
An overview of the global standards, classification requirements, and regulatory frameworks governing Dynamic Positioning operations.
Section 2: DP Systems and Operations:
A summary of the core components, operational principles, and vessel types involved in DP, highlighting system functionality and onboard roles.
Section 3: Risk Management in DP Operations:
An introduction to the risks, failure modes, and safety strategies in DP operations, including industry best practices and and Collision Risk Management

Audience:
The course is ideal for maritime professionals, engineers, logisticians, and personnel working on or with DP-equipped vessels.

Deliverables
By the end of the course, Participants will feel confident in their understanding of:
•    International maritime regulations applicable to non-DP and DP vessels,
•    Understand the various classes of DP vessels and their structure,
•    Know which types of offshore operations are performed in the various DP classes,
•    Understand the Risk Management tools put in place by the Industry to control and mitigate the DP risks: FMEA – ASOG and Collision Risk Management.

Certificate
Upon completion of the training participants will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance issued by Adinergy.

  1. Rules and Regulations: The International Maritime Organisation - The Offshore Industry Standards and Guidelines - The Class Societies & Insurances role.
  2. Dynamic Positioning System & Operations: How does the system work? - Dynamic Positioning System: Mechanical principles - The DP IMO classifications - Dynamic Positioning Operations.
